For maximum control over the alignment of bone tunnels use of cannulated drills is preferred. A fine guide wire is drilled through where the bone tunnel or screw hole is required. Only when the surgeon is satisfied that the guide wire is correctly positioned is the drill driven along the wire to create the hole.
